Principle Software Engineer. Tech 4 Good – Accessibility
Fully Remote (UK) – Up to £100,000
Do you have a passion for Accessibility and Tech for Good? Then you’ll want to join this wonderful bunch who have created a suite of products which are changing the lives of people living with a disability.
This lovely tech business are doing incredible things to help make the world more accessible. They are building software products that help people with disabilities interact in their studies and make their lives easier in the world of education. They believe that disabilities should not stand in the way of a good education and they want to do everything they can to help make this happen! We have been working exclusivity with them for the past 6 months and helped hire some unbelievable people.
They’re now expanding to wider industries whilst continuing to dominate the education sector, and they are going international! The feedback on their products have been second to none, and they are now looking to bring on a new Software Engineer as they expand their products and target new markets in the UK and overseas.
They are a small focused tech team of five engineers with lots of technical experience across many fields. – 11 people across the rest of the business. They work in a (small A) agile way – and have been adapting their ways of working over the past few months so that they support their technical aims, the product development, and provide visibility and predictability to the business. They hold daily stand-ups (remotely) and regular retrospectives to allow us to reflect on how they are working and ask for support.
They’re looking for a highly motivated developer with lots of experience building web applications using relational databases. Ruby and Ruby on Rails experience is preferred but you may come from another background for example Python or Node.Js. You’ll be excited to mentor and coach more junior developers and will value clear and helpful communication.
This role has two elements: working with the product and design team to help plan and spec new features and working with the dev team to build them. You’ll be working as a hands-on engineer – writing and reviewing code but also being part of the technical planning process by gaining a good understanding of the product roadmap and helping to design solutions that support it.
You’ll also be working with other developers to help them understand the technical direction and the short and medium-term priorities.
Which features you would work on will depend on your skillset and interests. The role is as “full-stack” as you would like – they have infrastructure-as-code to maintain and are growing a library of front-end components that will help them build their apps in a consistent and maintainable way with high standards of accessibility. You will have the opportunity to work in any and all these areas.
What you’ll need:
- Experience building and working with APIs
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code: Terraform, Docker etc
They use a multitude of technology, much of which not all you’ll require experience with:
- Clients – Electron + HTML + CSS
They are currently fully remote, however they are opening an office in Bristol. They would love for this person to based close to Bristol, but will of course consider a strong Engineer living further afield!
Please apply and I’ll be in touch to discuss!
